Club 1893

We are not alone is celebrating our 120th anniversary this year.  The following bowls clubs were also established way back in 1893 and hopefully over time we can strengthen this bond through the opportunity to share stories and learn more about one another.

Our club was established in 1893 and our present address is at 5, Muirton Road where we enjoy an enviable position in the heart of the Lochee district of the “City of Discovery” that is DUNDEE

We have one of the finest greens in Dundee maintained by a professional greenkeeper.

There is a membership of 120 gents and 40 ladies

Lochee B.C. is affiliated to the following bowling associations, Bowls Scotland, Angus BA, City of Dundee BA, Dundee & District Wednesday Association .

Our ladies and gents  participate in the many competitions organised by these associations as well as our own club competitions.

As well as competitive games there are a number of friendly games available to take part in. The gents participate in Wednesday and Saturday games and the ladies on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the season visiting other clubs and we give a warm welcome to the clubs visiting our green.

KINROSS BOWLING CLUB

Club History:
The club was founded on the 22nd of March, 1893. Initially, it was called "the Kinross-shire Bowling Club" and members were required to be shareholders - for the then significant sum of £1 each.

Initially, there were only 2 club competitions - the club championship and the rink medal. The original cup and medal are still awarded for the equivalent competitions today.

The original clubhouse was completed in 1898 at a cost of £165. The club still plays on its original green, and still uses its original clubhouse (albeit extended and modernised over the years) - both of which are on ground leased from the Lord Montgomery Estates.

Lady Margaret Bowling Club

Formed in July 1893, very little information is available on the Lady Margaret Bowling Club as their website is no longer available.  A short book has been written on the Merseyside club and they continue to play on their green at 88 Old Lane, Eccleston Park, Prescot.

Middlesborough Bowling Club

The first players met at the County Hotel, Middlesbrough on 24 April 1893  to establish the rules of the club, the subscription rates and the location of  the green.

The Mayor of Middlesbrough formally opened the new bowling  ground of Middlesbrough Bowling Club in Cornfield Road, Linthorpe. The ground  which comprises of half an acre of land is admirably fitted for bowling  purposes, although the turf has been got into the best condition. The land was  purchased by a member of the club, and has been leased to the club for ten  years, with an option of purchase at the end of that time. It provides six  spacious rinks.   An excerpt from an article that appeared in the North Eastern Daily Gazette on 3rd August 1897

The Club became affiliated to the Yorkshire County Bowling Association in  1932 and five years later the first County Championship was won in the Fours  event. The Fours has been the Club's most successful event in the championships  - further wins being recorded in 1965, 1966 and 1983.
